Cell phones have become an integral part of everyday life. But when you're first born, these tiny, powerful computers are literally science fiction-like, and these devices are now ubiquitous and so closely connected to life that without a cell phone they can't survive.
We are now in a new era of technology, destined to change the lives of our children in essence. This is an era of artificial intelligence, where a group of scholars and industry leaders meet on Saturday to show the audience that the seeds of the robotic revolution have been buried and are flourishing.
"We're in the early stages," IBM Watson's Chief Technical Officer Rob High said at the summit, "We'll see a lot of work in the field of artificial intelligence."
We have developed a smiling robot that can comfort people, a third mechanical arm that can be fixed to drummers, with drumming and unmanned car software. Now, the most important goal of technology developers is to develop programs and robots that fully understand the nuances of human language and expression.
Once it becomes a reality, the machine can handle big data — books, medical research, social media dynamic renewals, and human facial insinuations.
For example, IBM Watson is working on a project that allows computers to provide doctors with treatment advice. These recommendations are based on medical research data and are combined with doctors’ observations of specific patients.
For those who are trying to learn new devices, an artificial intelligence program can make computers more natural. The current device needs to operate with a series of actions, such as double-clicking on the mouse, downloading specific APPs to perform specific functions. If you cannot translate your intentions into a computer action that can be understood, the computer will not react.
"So, we humans have to adapt to the machine's mode of understanding." Rob High said he said that in the future, the divide between humans and machines will cease to exist, and the machine will understand the subtle differences in human language communication. That sounds great, and many speakers at the summit have expressed similar themes.
But there is another possibility.
Dark future
Hawking has always believed that artificial intelligence will destroy humanity, and that he is not alone. Such fears are not new, but as technology becomes more advanced, fears grow.
Bill Gates shares this view.
"We keep saying the wolf is coming, the wolf is coming, the wolf is coming, and the wolf is coming." He said.
He warned of the “serious consequences” of artificial intelligence development. Machines can easily replace human work. What happens when machines are smarter than the humans who created them?
It seems a little remote. The machine is still learning the most basic instructions. But Bill Gates points out that technology will expand rapidly -- and that's what Ray Kurzweil, a leading future scholar, thinks. He shared it at the summit.
"Technology expands exponentially," Ray Kurzweil says.
This is also understood by some scholars, one of whom expressed particular concern about the future.
"What does it mean to be alive when machines do more than humans?" says Illah Nourbakhsh, Professor at Carnegie Malone University.
"In the end, our social contract needs some kind of big change... you need to give humans a reason to survive, a sense of pride." He said, "We need to solve this problem on a global scale." It's easy, it's hard, but it's not impossible.
"Technology is a double-edged sword behind a fire," Ray Kurzweil says, "We can both warm up and burn down our house."
